Somehow newpaper took a few of the photos placed in my blog to their article.
Underwear-clad woman who walks street in broad daylight upsets residents
SHE struts around in a striking red robe which occasionally flips open to reveal a black bra and hot pants.
SHE struts around in a striking red robe which occasionally flips open to reveal a black bra and hot pants.
Her dress sense might not attract too much attention in a dance club or in Geylang's red-light areas.
But in the HDB heartland and in broad daylight?
No wonder the skimpily-dressed woman has caused quite a stir in the 'usually quiet' Lengkok Bahru housing estate in Redhill.
Residents are upset that she does her flashing act even when children are around.
They say they have seen the woman standing at the side of the road shooting alluring glances at passing men for the past several days.
From her behaviour, they suspect she is a prostitute. Why she chose to operate in that neighbourhood in such brazen fashion is not known.
Several residents complained about her to the Chinese evening papers but none of them had confronted or questioned the woman.
When The New Paper went to the area yesterday evening, she was no longer around. But some residents confirmed having seen her around in recent days.
One of them, who wanted to be known only as Madam Neo, told The New Paper that she first saw the woman last week, on her way home from lunch.
The 39-year-old housewife said in Mandarin: 'I was with my 4-year-old son when I saw her. She was as good as naked, and it was in broad daylight.'
She couldn't remember the exact time she saw the woman, but remembered that a few schoolchildren were passing by at the time.
'I don't understand why she chooses to do this in such a public area - it's so unsightly,' she said.
Student Alicia Chew, 20, said she saw the woman walking from the nearby Redhill MRT station to the housing estate across the road last week.
She said: 'It was quite a shocking sight because I've never seen anybody like her in this area before.
'Quite a few people turned and stared, but I didn't see anybody approach her at the time.'
A resident in her 40s, who gave her name only as Madam Chen, told Shin Min Daily News that she saw the woman loitering near her block a few days ago.
She believed the woman was waiting to be approached by potential 'clients'.
Said Madam Chen: 'She's dressed skimpily every day, and is always heavily made-up. And in that red robe, you can tell at once that her intentions are questionable.'
Madam Chen added that the woman usually appeared in the neighbourhood around 1pm. She would then find a spot to wait, often posing suggestively and making eye contact with passing men.
If a man approaches her, there's usually a short exchange, after which she sometimes leaves with him.
Said Madam Chen: 'This may not be a posh residential area, but it is a housing estate after all - and a lot of people are angry about it.'
A resident in his 50s, who declined to be named, told Shin Min Daily News that he saw two women dressed only in bras, hot pants and unbuttoned robes having lunch at a coffee shop in the area three days ago.
They were with a few men.
He said: 'The area where the woman usually waits is an estate of one-room flats, and a lot of old people live here.
'Many of the residents are bachelors, and some streetwalkers started coming here a few years ago to solicit customers.'
But he said that none of them was as scantily-clad as this woman.
He added: 'She's probably going for the single old men who live in this area. Here, she won't have to compete with others.
'I hope the authorities can do something about this, so that our neighbourhood won't turn into another red-light district.'
A 22-year-old National Serviceman, who wanted to be known only as Ritz, saw the woman while visiting a friend on Tuesday. He said he had heard about her earlier.
So he took a picture of her with his handphone camera and sent it to STOMP.
He recalled: 'I saw two men in their mid-30s approach her and they spoke. After a while, the men left but she still hung around.'
About 15 minutes later, he saw someone looking like a businessman approach her. They spoke for about five minutes before she left with him.
Account executive Ho Wenyang, 26, said that while he hadn't seen the woman, he has heard his grandfather complaining about the increasing number of women coming to the area to solicit.
He said: 'Something should be done because there are families and children around here who may be affected by the presence of people like that.
'I feel that by dressing like that, she is being very disrespectful to the residents. She should have more self-respect.'
At press time, the police could not confirm whether a report had been made about the woman.
