On the female artistes front, there were fewer surprises. Two-time nominated Best Actress Hong Huifang makes her entry to the popularity list usually occupied by her younger and more nubile peers.
Dawn Yeoh who was nominated for Best Newcomer last year has 'upgraded' to the Most Popular Female Artiste ranks this year.
While most artistes must be holding their breaths to see if they make it to the Most Popular Male and Female Artistes lists each year, Jacelyn Tay, who has been missing from our TV screens to focus on her health and weight management business, has bowed out of the rat race for this year's Star Awards.

In an interview with entertainment magazine 8 DAYS, the multi-hyphenate revealed that she had withdrawn from the awards. The reason behind her decision? Jacelyn said that she had not done much TV work this year and therefore felt that she should 'give the chance to other people'.

Popular hunks on the block Julian Hee and Vincent Ng are out of the running this year. Newcomers to the list includes Shaun Chen, Zhang Yaodong and Pierre Png. Comedian Henry Thia also had the last laugh by beating out the usual suspects Julian Hee and Vincent Ng.
Jeff Wang, who was left out last year, makes a comeback. Christopher Lee, who was convicted and jailed this year for drink driving and failure to render help, showed that he is not forgotten by the public with his nomination.
