The Blue Mountains make for the perfect holiday destination for families, nature lovers, and adventure seekers. Bushwalks abound in the region and are an excellent way to take in the natural attractions, with trails to suit all ages and levels of experience.
Visit Scenic World in Katoomba to enjoy panoramas of the wilderness, waterfalls, valleys and rugged sandstone tablelands by cablecar or the famous scenic railway. Explore the ancient caverns of Jenolan Caves and discover limestone crystal and underground rivers deep within the mountains.
The Festival of Walking invites you to explore the Lithgow and Oberon regions in October. Explore the area’s natural beauty and Aboriginal heritage as you walk. Take part in the Six Foot Track Marathon and challenge yourself on the 45 km trail stretching across the Blue Mountains, from the historic Explorer's Marked Tree near Katoomba, to the Jenolan Caves.
The Blue Mountains Music Festival of Folk, Blues and Roots is held in in mid-March every year. See and hear world class musicians in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. The festival also features market stalls with locally-made food, arts and crafts as well as performance workshops.
Lithgow also celebrates Yulefest between 1 June to 31 August. The town, along with other areas in Oberon and the Blue Mountains, are transformed into an icy winter wonderland, where visitors can enjoy toasty fires, roast dinners and festive decorations in some hotels, motels and guesthouses.
The surrounding picturesque towns of Blackheath, Faulconbridge, Katoomba, Leura,Megalong Valley, Mount Victoria, Springwood, Wentworth Falls, Hartley, Lithgow and Oberon offer a great range of restaurants and accommodation.
