Every birthday is a turning point in most people's lives. There are some birthdays which are regarded as a major milestone, just like a fortieth birthday. It is even more special when a nation celebrates its fortieth year of independence, as Singapore will on 9 August 2005.
Happy 40th Birthday SINGAPORE!!
We had to immediately advanced to the Esplanade, fearing that we might not be able to watch the fireworks display. The lights were really blinding my eyes.
BOOM!
Boom! Boom!
People were cheering and clapping almost immediately when the fireworks were displayed. At that moment, I was all alone, standing amidst the crowd, watching the display of fireworks.
I should not have run off from them to take the pictures. Bleah!
Boom!
And then there was silence. Time seemed to stand still. Couples hugging one another, whispering lovely, sweet words to each other. How envy I was for them.
