The Taipei Trip - Day 3, Part 1

Ximending has been called the "Harajuku of Taipei" and the "Shibuya of Taipei". Ximending is the source of Taiwan's fashion, subculture, and Japanese culture. Ximending is also the main LGBT district of Taiwan, with a host of many clubs and pubs surrounding the area. This area is in the northeastern part of Wanhua District in Taipei and it is also the most important consumer district in the Western District of Taipei. The well-known Ximending Pedestrian Area was the first pedestrian area built in Taipei and is the largest in Taiwan.

Firstly, Dantes cafes are all over Taipei city, as they are a chain. Their coffee is amazing; as is the whole beverage selection including teas; juices etc. They have a really nice food menu and do breakfast sets; lunches; salads as well as delicious cakes. The staff are always helpful and friendly as seems everyone in Taipei. The atmosphere is pleasant, and comfortable. The price of their drinks and food menu is a snip in comparison to what Starbucks are charging making it a great place to enjoy for what i believe is a much better product.

The Shilin Official Residence (Chinese士林官邸pinyinshìlín guāndǐ) is the former residence of late Republic of ChinaPresident Chiang Kai-shek located on Zhongshan North Road in the Shilin District of TaipeiTaiwan.
During the Japanese Colonial era on Taiwan, it was the location of the Shilin Horticultural Experimental Station. After the Republic of China lost the Chinese Civil War in 1949 and retreated to Taiwan, the property was requisitioned to the government and transformed into the residence of Chiang Kai-Shek and Soong May-ling by architect Yang Cho-cheng. Construction was completed by the Continental Engineering Corporation.

In the early days of the Republic of China on Taiwan, the residence was heavily militarized, fortified, and closed to the public. Since 1996, it has been open to the public and is a popular place for viewing the gardens. The gardens include both Chinese and Western style horticulture. In addition to the gardens, the official residence includes the former home of Chiang Kai-Shek and Soong May-ling.

The official residence home is a two-story western style home. The official residence house is currently opened to the public as of January 2, 2011. In addition, the grounds also include Madame Chiang Kai-Shek's former Cadillac limousine, Chiang Kai-Shek's personal Victory Chapel, and the Xinlan Pavilion (新蘭亭) with inscription by Yu Youren which hosted Chiang's birthday celebrations. Former President Chen Shui-bian revealed that the grounds contain a hidden tunnel that connects to the Presidential office in downtown Taipei.
