Le Great Smile

Ever wondered how people like Simon Cowell, Cee Lo, Julia Roberts and Whitney Houston get their fabulous smiles? Well most people will usually say 'They've got the money to do it' - which is only 50% right.

Most celebrities will do the quick fix, which is to make a trip to their dentist's office and request for a bleaching or whitening treatment, which can cost up to I don't know, my arm and leg?

Speaking from a normal person on the street's perspective, we covet these people for their bright smiles, but hey, there are some tips to attaining these the more, 'practical' way. But let's just say, for anything to actually happen, lots of discipline, commitment and care are required for the materialisation of success.

First, you should pay attention to the kind of food that you are consuming. Anything that leaves a stain or a mark on your delicate skin will also do ditto on those calcified babies. And sadly, a lot of them fall in our 'cherished foods' list. Coffee, tea, soda, red and white wine, grape/cranberry juice, blueberries, beets, soy sauce and tomato sauce all have the strong potential to ruin your teeth's potential. It's not to say though, that we need to impose a complete severing of these food materials from our diet, just ensure that when you do take such things, make measures to at least do a light cleaning after consumption, like rinsing your mouth with water/hydrogen peroxide/baking soda/your typical Colgate or Listerine, or simply brushing your teeth.

On the bright side, however, there ARE some foods that can actually 'exfoliate' your teeth while you eat them, leaving you with a fresher and brighter smile. Strawberries, a favourite of Ms Zeta-Jones, are a hot pick amongst the pursuers of white teeth.

It was dubbed she used strawberries to clean her teeth daily. Just check out that set of whites!
You can also add to this list apples, celeries, carrots and cauliflowers.

And finally the usual tips that you've been hearing since you were 3 are actually as essential as they seem to be - that's why momsy told them to you in the first place but we just wouldn't listen huh! Remember to floss regularly as food stuck in between your teeth are one of the main causes of stained teeth AND bad breath, and kick the habit of smoking if applicable - tobacco stains teeth. Also, try drinking with a straw when you can, that majorly prevents the dark dyes from your juices or wines from staining your teeth (Don't do this when you're having tea with Madonna, the Queen of England or Me, you'll most probably get beaten up. Yes, the Queen is more happening than she seems).

Start practising these tips religiously guys! And I look forward to seeing brighter smiles on the streets, lest there will be the continuation of this drastic famine of beauty. Enjoy them in good health.
