Ever since the invention of motor car drivers, people have been obsessed with speed. But how did this lust for the ultimate fast ride evolve into one of the most popular sports in the world?
Well, it all started in America, in the dry lake beds in the California Deserts. "Drag racing" which is a type of motor racing in which automobiles or motorcycles compete, usually two at a time, to be the first to cross the finish line.
During the 1930s as engines got better and drivers got braver, speeds began topping 100mph. But it wasn't until after the world war II that a bunch of kids with cars, hanging out with nowhere in particular to go, turned into something more serious.
Popularity grew steadily, but drag racing remained largely an underground pastime. Then in Europe, Formula One automobile racing took its roots in the European Grand Prix Championship of the 1920s and 1930s.
The foundation of Formula One began in 1946, which included worldwide championships, where other countries could that part in the championships of Formula One and the rest is history.
Today, advertising and tourism has a huge part to play in F1 races. Formula One also collaborates with famous artists, and hotels to draw the crowd and both work hand in hand. So if you are coming to watch the race or the artists, you are still in for a great time!
