On 23rd January 2014, the first overseas branch of Kensai Kitchen, established in Izumo, Shimane in 2006, opened in Liang Court, the unofficial meeting-place of the Japanese expatriate community. It serves the closest thing you'll get to a Japanese family home.

Kensai Kitchen promises a totally satisfying, value-for-money dining experience. One all-inclusive price lets you take your pick from an all-you-can-eat buffet of around 15 items and a free-flow drinks bar offering coffee, tea, juices and water. In addition, a selection of sake and beer is available at reasonable prices.

On weekdays, lunch and dinner cost just $19.90++ per adult; and on weekends, lunch and dinner cost $24.90++ per adult. Children aged 11 and under dine for $14.90++ for lunch and dinner, weekdays and weekends. Children measuring 110cm in height and below dine for free.

Kensai Kitchen serves healthy food prepared with premium ingredients that does not compromise on taste. In fact, you will find slightly more fresh vegetables than usual in its dishes.

The food served in their restaurant closely resembles Japanese home-cooking. As a loving mother would cook for her family, they cook with fresh, natural and wholesome ingredients.

On sampling the dishes, we noticed an abundance of loving little touches that earn the 'home-cooked' and 'healthy' stamps of approval.

Dashimaki: Literally meaning 'grilled egg', this delicate multi-layered omelette is made from eggs and an original sauce. It is deftly prepared in a special pan.

For example, the creamy potato salad has a conspicuous amount of fresh, crispy Japanese cucumber, cut paper-thin with stirred through the delicious soft potato and mayonnaise, together with carrots and mustard. The kabochani is made from the real Japanese pumpkins. It is cooked with the skin on in order to retain optimum nutrients.

Nikujaga: This dish is comically pronounced as 'Mick Jagger' by foreigners. It is a wholesome stew of beef, potatoes, carrots and onion cooked in soy sauce and mirin.

Chikuzen-ni: This is a classic one-pot Japanese nimono (simmered) dish made from chicken, shitake mushrooms, renkon (lotus root), konnyaku, taro, burdock root and dashi. It is high in fibre, low in fat and rich in vitamins and minerals.

Salmon Sashimi: The Salmon Sashimi is cut to order for optimum succulence. It's low in calories and rich in omega- 3 fatty acids, which benefit cardiovascular health and vision and help boost good cholesterol.

They also serves fruits; watermelons, oranges, pineapples etc.
