Food Tasting: A For Arbite

Opened in March 2013, A for Arbite is the sister to Arbite @ Serangoon Gardens. While they have things in common (like hearty brunches and handmade pasta), A for Arbite has a special focus at dinner time on a food and drink pairing menu.

Choose three or four dishes from the menu, and then pick one of the recommended drinks to enhance the flavours - much more exciting than just an entree and a main!

Of course, they have some pretty fantastic desserts, like a rich dark chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, or a very twisted Cookies & Cream Cheesecake. All of this is in a relaxed
and friendly atmosphere too - they want everyone to have fun along with their food.

The ambience is perfect for couples or even a group of friends to chill and relax and enjoy the good food at A For Arbite.

Arbite [ahr-bahyt]

A pun on the German/Danish word for work (arbeit/arbejde). Inspired by Europe but rooted in Singapore. An intrinsic honesty to the word. This permeates
everything that they do and serve.

The Lobster Thermidor ($12) was creamy and rich. Like the juicy lobster and crab meat chunks, I was drowned in delight of the cream, mustard, brandy and parmesan cheese sauce. I love, love, love the Lobster Thermidor. Thermidor sounds like Terminator.

The Banana Nectar is so heavenly!

White Bait; deep fried and tossed with lemongrass and chili salt. Sits nicely with palm and yuzu mojito. White bait was one of my favorites! Crunchy.

Braised Smoked Pork Belly; thirty six hours braised streaky bacon, kimchi in a leaf bun! I'm not a fan of any kind of pork but this somehow manage to make me like them.

A for Arbite Mixed Grill; roasted leg of lamb, pork chop, bacon, smoked beef sausage, chicken and sunny side egg with condiments of the day.

FABULOUS! F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S! I love the chicken, the sunny side egg, and especially the roasted leg of lamb! Tender and juicy! LOVE!

Lobster Pasta a delight. It looks really good. The lobster was fresh and the sauce was flavourful enough too.

The eatery will also be one of the first in Singapore to run draught beer taps for Belgian craft brews, which Mr Wee will also offer in beer flights - or a set of five 80ml sample portions - that diners can pair as they prefer with the food.

I enjoyed the meal at A for Arbite very much. It's laid back, charming and the service was great. I'm not saying it because it was a hosted dinner but we noticed how attentive the wait staff were to other guests as well. Great place to hang out with the pals. Aliwal Street is a little off the Bugis/Haji area but the walk is certainly worth it.

With the wonderful Marc, A for Arbite's owner and chef!
