Sail Rock rolled down to the coastline from a nearby plateau. From a distance, it looks like a sailboat about to set sail, from where it gets its name.
Up close, it looks more like the profile of former U.S President Richard Nixon, and thus is also sometimes called "Nixon's Head."
The rock protrudes from the remnants of an ancient coral reef, a typical scene in Kenting National Park.
