It was a wet night. Whilst walking along the arid paths of Gardens By The Bay, I wondered to myself, how on earth would she tolerate such incessant cricket ringings and atrociously unbearable stench of raw soil? And after a seemingly long 60 minute wait, she told me why - in her own, fabulous way.
Ladies and Gentlemen, after a whole month of anticipation, I actually got entertained by the gorgeous Ms Jennifer Lopez in her Dance Again World Tour!
With stunning outfits and her trademark usuals comprising of crystals, diamonds and basically anything that screams sparkle, JLo literally danced the night away, living her life On The Floor. The 43 year old artist brought forth her older hits that got us folks moving on our own feet, like 'Waiting For Tonight' and 'Let's Get Loud'. Musically, they had their remixes. I detected mass electronic inputs into these hits from the 90s that just made everything more enjoyable and fabulous. Her dancers were, undoubtedly, setting the standards the Jennifer demands physically. It comes without surprise, that for someone as physically flawless as her (even after pregnancy and a myriad of marriages and divorces), having equally sexy dancers is a definite must. I was thrilled by how long a journey this woman has come, from the days as a Fly Girl, to the days of On The 6, and to today's Pitbull-featuring diva. It was a show about her life, a show about her take on Love, and a show that entertained a pragmatic Singaporean crowd.
Her outfits were custom designed by international designer Zuhair Murad, which featured feathered coats in simple colours, and of course, sparkling body hugging silver suits that flaunted her toned abs, arms and beautiful skin. I wondered a couple of times how she managed to bear with the unbearable heat that we peasants have to face everyday. Well clearly she had a strong will - 'When you are brought down by someone, you come back up again. Is that how ya'll do it in Singapore?!' And that alone, was sufficiently inspiring even as a take away.
There was something strangely unexpected during the course of the 80 minute show, however. When she sang her love hit 'Until It Beats No More', I literally felt emotionally attached, to a friend of mine who was with me in the spectacular. There was something about that moment, the lights, her voice, the melody, the video montage of her and her kids, and the proximity of people and music. It was the visceral effect of music, at its best, and personally experienced by myself...
So truly enough, during the Interlude of 'Dance Again'. She mentioned, in words, that Love was a Journey and not a Destination; and that she still wants the fairytale. Now, just a source of ponder, is that even slightly possible in our financially-driven, pragmatic, merit-recognising society of ours that dismisses such intangible values that so govern humanity and deemed able to make the world go round? Kinda deep for an 80 minute show huh?! But it was a a great show indeed. Thank you Jennifer, I enjoyed myself tremendously, and I hope to see you blossoming into a more beautiful artist each day.
So Always Remember...You will Live, You will Love, and you will Dance Again...
