The Star Vista, the first major mall in Buona Vista,
is celebrating Singapore’s 50th birthday with a community-engagement music
initiative, Project Celebrate. Organised in
collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic (SP), the project seeks to bring the
community around The Star Vista – comprising students, residents, the One-North
working population, shoppers and tenants – and beyond to come together to
commemorate the landmark event through a song.
The song at the heart of Project Celebrate is an original
composition titled You & Me, written by Scarlet Avenue, an up-and-coming
local band comprising two brothers (Amos and Adam Ang) who is signed to United
Records. The song will be launched in mid January and will be made available on
The Star Vista’s website (www.thestarvista.com) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/thestarvista)
In March, the public will be invited to take part in
Project Celebrate by adding their vocals to the acapella version of this song.
They can record their vocals in a specially-constructed recording studio
located at The Star Vista’s Star Plaza by students from SP’s School of Digital
Media & Infocomm Technology.
The students will also film the recording
process and will put together a music video of the participants singing the
song. When completed, the song and music
video will be made available on broadcast and social media platforms.
“The Star Vista is a chill-out, lifestyle mall which
has been actively engaging the community with different types of activities,
ranging from free weekly exercise sessions (Kickboxing Monday, Zumba Tuesday
and Yoga Thursday) to animal welfare adoption drive. As a gathering place for the community, The
Star Vista is excited to bring the community together to mark the nation’s
golden jubilee. The end result of
Project Celebrate in the form of a music video featuring people from all walks
of life will be an expression of love for Singapore from the public. We want
everybody, regardless of whether they think they can sing, to be a part of
Project Celebrate,” said Ms Elsie Goh, Centre Manager, The Star Vista.
“We are proud that the students from different
courses of Singapore Polytechnic are able to lend their talents to undertake
Project Celebrate. This will be a showcase to the world of what they are all
capable of,” said Christian James Sethmohan, Course Chair for Diploma in Visual
effects and Motion Graphics, Singapore Polytechnic.
“We are
thrilled to be able to pen a song for this monumental occasion. And to have the
public record our song is such an honour. We can’t wait for that to happen,”
said Amos Ang of Scarlet Avenue.
Details of the song’s recording by the public shall
be released closer to the date via The Star Vista’s website and Facebook page.
