Going bonkers at Banana Tree

Originating from Seoul, Korea, Banana Tree has finally set its roots here on Keong Saik Road, riding along with the rise of Korean desserts on sunny Singapore. Being an avid banana fan, I was of course, really excited for its opening. However, much to my dismay, NO, I’m too superficial for my own good. They don’t serve everything banana, even though they do have some banana-based desserts on their menu.

I thought Banana Tree had its strengths in its signature presentation in its dishes. The cute pots and spades for its bingsu and Flower Paap really captured my heart, and got me squealing in excitement. Despite the rather average fare, I think I would make a return visit to Banana Tree for their desserts if I’m in the area, since the weather is crazy hot all year round. Moreover, I really liked how the cafe feels so clean and serene with the glass ceiling.
Banana Tree deserves at least one visit from all you cafe hoppers out there for their cute concept and decent desserts, without exorbitant prices!
How to get there?

Jamie's Restaurant. One Word; Overrated

Overrated, overrated, overrated. Gordon Ramsay, please take over Jamie's restaurant!

The only saving grace was the, erm, roast potatoes with toasted fennel, garlic and chilli.

The tenderstem brocolli with olives, garlic, chili and lemon butter was hard like hell and the Spring Salmon was below par. Not fresh at all.

Cake Spade scores 3.5 / 5

Cake Spade, not KATE SPADE, OK?

Quite rustic and old-fashioned at heart, at Cake Spade, they strongly believe in baking from scratch and using the best fresh ingredients. This is a kitchen of heavenly aromas, chocolate-smudged pages of traditional recipes, and lots of love going into each and every slice of cake. Cake Spade is a one-stop dessert store, with many of our delectable offerings available for take-out, delivery, and catering.

Lollapalooza Restaurant

Welcome to Lollapalooza at Keong Saik Road, the gutsy offspring of Lolla, where small plates are eschewed in favour of sharing plates - some bigger than others - and Mediterranean inspirations make way for a freestyle cuisine unrestrained by borders or your imagination.

In a refreshing departure from the well trodden, more-chic-than-thou counter-style dining couture that’s all the rage in the city, Lollapalooza sports a breezy Japanese-Scandinavian inspired interior with clean lines and olive-accented neutral tones.

The main dining room packs in 24 diners, offering them a panorama of the open kitchen where a custom-built brick oven holds court. Whilst scanning the kitchen, you won't miss head chef, Issachar Lee, the former chef-patron of the now-defunct Kaixo. Further indoors, a 26-seat communal table with Volakas marble-top beckons for bigger groups (and those who don’t mind dining with strangers).

Unfortunately, the food wasn't what Sam and I expected. Maybe, its just our taste buds. The food were really not to our likings.

Dining at Monochrome Bistro

Monochrome Fusion Bistro is a restaurant along South Bridge Road. True to its name, its decor is all black and white. In fact, its indoor lighting is so brightly white that sunglasses may be needed.  We checked out this bistro to see if its food will pass with flying colours.

The storefront of the restaurant was interesting enough. But upon entering the restaurant, we find that the it was furnished very simply with the monochrome colour scheme being the standout feature.

The dishes were well presented and looked rather attractive.

For desserts, sink your teeth into the Sticky Date pudding w ice cream.
