Tim Ho Wan often comes up in the first sentence when discussing where to go in Hong Kong for dim sum. It's not for its location (a small alley in Mongkok), choices (few), views (none) or ambience (close to zero). Nope, it's for the food, or at least for the novelty factor of ostensibly being the cheapest Michelin-star restaurant anywhere.
Tim HoWan is now finally in Singapore. We managed to taste the delicious dim sums before it was opened to public on the 10th of April.
The best dishes at Tim Ho Wan are their famous pork buns with a sweet crust and siu mai (燒賣) made with a generous helping of Chinese mushrooms. Although prices are good, the menu is limited compared to a regular dim sum restaurant. Most dishes – other than the two I mentioned above – taste rather ordinary.
